SPF Committee - Building Standards & Sustainability

In recent years Scottish building standards have become the major method through which successive Scottish Governments have sought to improve the energy efficiency of new buildings in the built environment.  This focus is now shifting to the existing property stock with demanding new targets being set by the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009 and the current UK Energy Bill 2011.

The committee retains its focus on building standards as well as on the building warrant process itself.

The main issues are therefore:

  • energy efficiency in the built environment
  • sustainability labels for buildings
  • renewables and property
  • building warrants and verifiers
