Change to parliamentary business for debate on situation in Gaza
The debating chamber at Holyrood
Chamber business begins at 9.15am today. In a change to the programme, the morning’s business will begin with a Scottish Government debate on "Homecoming and its Potential to Support Sustainable Economic Growth". This will now be followed by a second Scottish Government debate at 10.25am on "The Humanitarian Disaster in Gaza". First Minister’s Question Time will be at noon. The afternoon’s business now includes a Scottish Government debate on "Protecting Scotland's Communities - the Scottish Government's Offender Management Plan" at 2.55pm. Business will end with debate on a motion from Lewis Macdonald MSP on the Aberdeen Forensic Science Laboratory.

Margaret Mitchell MSP on Holyrood Highlights Holyrood Highlights, our weekly programme looking at recent parliamentary business, was broadcast today at 12.30pm. You can watch the show every week directly after First Minister's Questions on the main Chamber channel. This week’s programme looks at the Scottish Government's debate on national qualifications and the Economy Committee's visit to Braes of Doune windfarm near Stirling. There will also be discussion of Sandra White MSP's Member's Business "Devastating Cuts At The Herald and Evening Times". Margaret Mitchell MSP is the studio guest.

Exhibition features portraits and poetry
Eddi Reader The as others see us exhibition, which opens at the Parliament on January 22, will showcase contemporary portraits of twenty of Scotland's best-known figures alongside their favourite poems and songs by Robert Burns. You can also join award-winning photographers Ross Gillespie and Tricia Malley for a tour of the show, which features photographs of writers and musicians such as Christopher Brookmyre, Janice Galloway and Eddi Reader (pictured), as well as a clan chief and an Ayrshire farmer. Power to the pupils
School pupil Our education programmes are run for schools, colleges and other educational groups who are interested in finding out more about what goes on at Holyrood. Today we welcome pupils from Glasgow Metropolitan College in Glasgow and Kellands School in Inverurie. Meanwhile, as part of the Your Parliament, Your School programme, Donibristle Primary School in Dalgety Bay and St Kentigern Academy in Blackburn are today hosting sessions with Parliamentary staff, while Acharacle Primary School in Argyll is hosting a session in English and Gaelic. Bookings for activities between 1 January and 31 March 2009 are taking place now. Current calls for evidence
Upset child There are a number of ongoing committee inquiries with open calls for views. For example, the Review of SPCB Supported Bodies Committee has issued a call for evidence seeking views on key themes to be addressed in the inquiry - with a deadline for responses on 16 January 2009. Meanwhile, the Health and Sport Committee has launched a call for evidence on its inquiry into mental health services, looking specifically at issues affecting young people, with a closing date on 20 January. Your chance to shape 2009's Festival of Politics
Douglas Hurd at the Festival of Politics
For the past four years, the Festival of Politics has proved itself a groundbreaking event which brings politics to the people. In 2009, to mark the fifth anniversary of the Festival and the tenth anniversary of the Scottish Parliament, we will host the longest-ever festival, opening on Tuesday 18 August and running over five days to Saturday 22 August. This year, the Parliament is also offering the opportunity to suggest a speaker, event or theme for the 2009 Festival. Suggestions are welcome from individuals or organisations, such as charities and other stakeholder groups.  If you would like to make a suggestion for the 2009 Festival programme, please complete the suggestions form.

The leaflet, which contains sections on parliaments and governments, local authorities and the European Parliament, can be ordered by using the Publications Order Form or by contacting the Public Information Service.
