22 May: Value of planning agreement research PDF Print E-mail

The Scottish Government has published research on the estimated value of planning agreements.

The research finds the value to be just over £50mn per year although it is acknowledged that this could be a conservative estimate.  Based on feedback from our members we believe that it is a very conservative estimate of the value of planning agreements.

The paper includes an analysis of the cost of affordable housing, road improvements and other local infrastructure for which contributions are sought as well as an examination of how agreements are formulated.

The research may be accessed through this link.

The Scottish Property Federation believes that s75 agreements are increasingly sought by planning authorities and the research confirms there has been a significant increase.  SPF is concerned that planning authorities must not deter development opportunities through excessive s75 agreement demands.
